The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT hive is a collective data found in both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes) as well as the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes).
